When patients come into Medical Weight Loss Clinic with a goal, they also wonder if they’ll be able to lose and maintain their weight loss. Cindy Faubert Hayes is a perfect example of what’s possible. She stepped into our Grand Rapids clinic a little over two years ago with the intent of losing about 30 pounds.
At 5’2 the mother of nine found herself weighing 182 pounds and aimed to see her pre-pregnancy weight around 150 pounds once again. After a few months on the program she saw the extra weight begin to drop off and aimed for a new goal, eventually reaching 127 pounds without working out.
“I feel like I am doing pretty well,” she says. “I have kept the weight off.”
Cindy says she feels healthier now that she’s started a daily gym regimen and has built muscle on her small frame. She’s wearing sizes 2-4 and friends regularly stop her in public to ask how she’s lost weight and kept it off. She’s an inspiration and has encouraged others to inquire about Medical Weight Loss Clinic and lose weight themselves.
“I am in the best shape I have ever been in,” she says. “My life has changed dramatically. Losing weight gave me my confidence back.”
And she means it. The program helped her find a way to eat healthfully and stay in shape but it also helped her to find a way to prioritize her own health.
“What I have seen over the past few months is that as Moms in general, we tend to lose ourselves in being wives and mothers,” Cindy says. “We put our faith and our families first. Sometimes we don’t even put ourselves on the list at all.”
She reached 40 and like many women felt she was always going to be a heavier weight. She accepted it then but looks back know to see that a healthier option was possible.
“I was ecstatic to get back into the 120s,” she recalls. “I hadn’t been that weight since maybe 9th grade.”
Even more than the number on the scale, though, Cindy believes that “it’s all about balance.”
She says: “We tend to have a lot of mom guilt about going to the gym or spending money on a program like Medical Weight Loss Clinic or spending money on healthier food, which is more expensive. I’m a much happier person now.”
While she has always spent a lot of time as a stay-at-home mother raising her children and caring for them each day, she is able to fit in time to go to the gym or to walk with a friend and Cindy says it’s important – not just for her – but for her daughters to see that this is all possible.
